City Closes Simpson Park to Public Access

HEMET, CA – Hemet Fire Department will close Simpson Park effective June 20, 2018 at 0800 hours. The extreme heat coupled with low humidity increases the threat of wildfire. Simpson Park has been identified as a high fire risk area and will be closed to public access. We encourage the public to stay out of these areas.

The HFD takes these actions in concert with Riverside County (Cal Fire) which has initiated similar actions at seven hazardous fire areas:

 • Avery Canyon (Gibbel Road east of State Street in Hemet)

 • North Mountain and Indian Canyon (San Jacinto area)

• Whitewater Canyon (Cabazon, north of Palm Springs)

• Nuevo/Lakeview (east of Menifee Road and San Jacinto Avenue)

 • Minto (Sage) • Reinhardt Canyon (north of Highway 74 and California Avenue in Hemet)

 • Ramona Bowl and Bautista Canyon (southeast Hemet)

As many as 90 percent of wildland fires in the United States are caused by humans, according to the National Park Service.

The closure will remain in effect until further notice.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause. The Hemet Fire Department remains committed to keeping our community safe.”

Fire Chief Scott Brown
