Fair Housing Services
Available Services
The City of Hemet provides fair housing services to it residents through an on-going partnership with the
Fair Housing Council of Riverside County, Inc. The county council may be contacted at (951) 682-6581 or (800) 655-1812. Funded by the City of Hemet, the
Fair Housing Council provides the following services to the Hemet residents.
- Administrative Hearings: Conduct administrative hearings for Public Housing Authority tenant grievance and Section 8 hearings
- Anti-Discrimination: Receive, investigate, and resolve housing discrimination complaints. Also conduct workshops, seminars, and disseminate written fair housing information
- Enforcement of Housing Rights: Conduct housing discrimination audits and tests and refer discrimination cases to Housing and Urban Development (HUD), DFEH, or private attorney
- First Time Buyers: HUD requires the completion of a Home Buyer Counseling Course for all borrowers receiving First Time Home Buyer Program assistance
- Foreclosure Prevention: If you find that you are unable to make your mortgage payment, the Fair Housing Council of Riverside County, Inc. and it's certified housing counselors can help
- Landlord-Tenant: Receive, investigate, mediate, and counsel renter / owner rights and responsibilities. Also conduct workshops and seminars and disseminate written landlord-tenant information
- Special Projects: The Fair Housing Council of Riverside County conducts and participates in various activities throughout the year. Visit the activities page for a list of upcoming events and workshops
- Training and Technical Assistance: Conduct property management training workshops and seminars and serve on quasi-government technical advisory and working groups.
Protected Right
Fair housing is a right protected by federal and state laws. Fair housing means you may freely choose a place to live without regard to your race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or because you are disabled or have children in your family.
