Small Wireless Facility Design Guidelines

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Sept. 26, 2018 approved a Declaratory Ruling and Third Report and Order setting standards for how state and local governments may regulate small cell wireless deployment in their local jurisdiction. Small Cell Wireless describes a technology that typically involves mounting an antenna and associated telecommunications equipment on existing streetlights and utility poles. Unlike large macro cell towers in previous years, small cells are intended to be deployed as a network of closely-positioned devices on streets and roadways to support future 5G wireless standards. The FCC ruling allows local governments to establish aesthetic guidelines and make them publicly available.
